It was claimed that a video shared on the social media and reported to teyit.org was showing a dog being tucked and smashed in a garbage truck in Nevşehir’s Acıgöl county.
Tweet: Nevşehir/ Acıgöll Municipality – July 11 2018 – 21.55 They are smashing the dogs in the garbage truck alive!!
After the visuals stated to be taken in Acıgöl resounded in social media, NTV (a national news channel) made a news piece about it. In addition to that, Acıgöl head of municipality Ercan Ertaş expressed in his statement that dog was not harmed and was held with an animal grabbing device.
The claim that the video was taken in Nevşehir’s Acıgöl county is correct. The vehicle is registered as a garbage truck in municipality’s inventory. Although the head of Acıgöl Municipality stated that the dog was tucked in the vehicle with an animal grappling tool, it can be seen that one of the people on the video has a shovel in his hand while it is not possible to see what other one holds in his hands. While the head of municipality expressed in his statement that no animal was harmed and they were released to the nature, there is not enough evidence on what happened to the dog seen on the video.
Video was taken in Acıgöl County
Although it is not possible to clearly see a signboard or any other clue in the mentioned video, it can be said that it is Acıgöl central square based on the shape of stones on the sidewalk and the road.
It is possible to pick out the diamond-shaped sidewalk stones and a traffic island on Aksaray street in Acıgöl.
When looked at the images of the mentioned place received through Google Earth, it is possible to see the diamond shapes and the shadows of the trees on the traffic island.
It can be said that the square where the event is claimed to take place and the AKP County Office matches up with the place on the video. It can be also said that when the picture taken from above the square right in front of the AKP County Office is examined, the garbage truck is seen to be parked in the reverse direction of the traffic on Aksaray street.
The vehicle is registered at Acıgöl Municipality’s inventory as a garbage truck
When we examine the mentioned video, we can see the license plate. According to that, the license plate reads as “50 LC 449”.
The vehicle with the “50 LC 449” license plate is registered as the 1995 IVECO garbage truck on the activity report of the municipality published in March 2017. There are three garbage trucks on the vehicles inventory of the municipality. The oldest one is a year 1990 FIAT.
The head of Acıgöl Municipality told that the vehicle was not used as a garbage truck
After the reactions to the video, head of Acıgöl Municipality Ercan Ertaş made statements about the issue on a live program called “Gel Konuşalım”on TV8. By stating that “As always, this is a baseless piece of news and baseless denunciation”, he denied the allegations regarding the visuals and he said that the vehicle was not used as a garbage disposal but as a vehicle to collect animals because of the cover behind it. In addition, he said that an investigation on the issue is initiated.
There is a shovel in the hands of the person tucking the dog in the vehicle
It was explained in Municipality Head Ertaş’s statement on Twitter that the animal was put in the vehicle without harming it with a animal grabbing device.
However, when the video is examined, it is clearly seen that the person on the right is holding a shovel. It is not possible to see what the person on the left is holding in his hands.
When looking at the license plates, it can be understood that the garbage truck Ertaş was making his statement in front of is the same as the one on the video.

Also, it is possible to see washtubs in the garbage truck Ertaş stands in front of. However, when we think that these were on the same place as the dog was staying, even if there were food and water in those washtubs, these would be spilled over when the dog tried to escape.

The head of municipality expressed in his statement that the dog was released after it was treated. Yet, no detailed information or pictures of the dog were shared. In the video it is possible to see the dog is white and its face is black.
In the daytime we tried to reach the Acıgöl Municipality via phone and e-mail however we were not able to reach anyone. The governarate of Nevşehir expressed in their statement that they will meet the case for the ones in charge of the issue.
