FALSE

It was claimed that a photo shared on social media and reported to teyit.org was showing Interior Minister of Turkish Republic Süleyman Soylu writing “Who the hell is America?” on a bomb.

The photo was photoshopped

However the claim that the photo shows Süleyman Soylu writing “Who the hell is America?” on a bomb is not true. The text was photoshopped to the picture. It is possible to see that there is no text on the bomb when looking at the original photo.

It is seen that Interior Minister Soylu inspected the Gendarmerie Commandership of Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) in Elazığ on July 14, 2018. The related photo can be seen in the news piece made by Mynet news website on July 14, 2018. It is stated in the news piece that Soylu moved on to go to Tunceli together with the committee accompanying him.

In the news piece by Demirören News Agency (DHA) dated the same day, it is stated that Soylu has autographed the ammunition attached to the UAV.

It is possible to reach other pictures of Soylu autographing the ammunition on the UAV at Elazığ Gendarmerie Commandership of Tactical UAV taken by Anadolu Agency.

It is known that Minister Soylu went to Van same day and inspected the UAVs placed at Van Gendarmerie Commandership of Tactical UAV. It is possible to see similarly he autographs the ammunition on a UAV there as well.

It is possible to reach other pictures of Soylu autographing the ammunition on the UAV during his visit in Van taken by Anadolu Agency.

Sharing of posts of this type increases as relations between the US and Turkey gets tense

After the July 15 coup attempt, it came to the attention of the public that there was a conflict between the US and Turkey regarding the remanding of the lead suspect of coup attempt Fethullah Gülen to Turkey. In addition to that, after US Istanbul Consulate staff Mehmet Topuz was arrested with the charge of being in connection to Fethullah Gülen, the US had put a visa embargo for Turkish citizens for a period of time and later canceled it. On July 24, 2018, the US Congress officially prohibited delivery of new generation warplanes F-35s to Turkey.

Finally, Turkish courts made the decision of continuation of detention for US citizen Pastor Andrew Craig Brunson on July 18, 2018, who was arrested in İzmir in 2016 with the charges of committing crimes on behalf of FETÖ and PKK and spying. The US President Donald Trump made a statement on social media saying the Pastor is innocent and should be released. After this statement Pastor Brunson was put under house arrest due to health problems. After this move, the US confiscated the properties of Turkish Minister of Justice Abdülhamit Gül and Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu and prohibited trade between these ministers and US citizens.

Parallel to this process, Turkish lira hit the lowest rate of all time against the American dollar. On August 6, 2018, dollar/TL rate rose to 5.42 and daily depreciation rate of TL exceeded 5,5%.

It would not be wrong to argue that the motivation behind this photoshop has to do with the deterioration of relations between the US and Turkey in recent times.
