Did the IMF set conditions such as vaccination and chips on African countries in return for debt relief?

CLAIM: IMF will vaccinate children and implant microchips into two people in every house in African countries that it gives debt relief due to the COVID-19.

FALSE

The posts shared on social media and some news websites, also sent to Teyit, claimed that IMF set conditions on the countries taking debt. According to these conditions, children would be vaccinated, microchips would be implanted into two people in every family, and villages without electricity would get an electrical connection. Also, they claimed that African countries would only get support from the IMF. One of the posts got almost 10,000 likes and more than 3,000 retweets.

Developing countries need additional financial resources to manage this pandemic process. The IMF announced in March that it could support these countries. Making a statement on the aid to African countries on 13 April 2020, IMF Director-General Kristalina Georgieva said that 25 countries such as Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Yemen would receive debt service relief. In other words, not all countries to receive debt relief are African countries.

In any of the statements of IMF, there are no such conditions in the claim for the countries receiving debt relief. Also, news about the support of the IMF does not report such conditions.

Many countries are working for vaccines to fight COVID-19. But anti-vaccination movement started to be discussed again during the epidemic. It was even claimed that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation planned to test the new vaccine in people in Africa, and implant microchips.

These microchips were claimed to have the ability to control people and watch their movements. The “digital certificate” mentioned by Bill Gates was interpreted wrong. It is aimed at creating an open-source digital platform to expand access to safe and home tests. Bill Gates also refuted the claims in his statement on Reuters.

In conclusion, the claim is not true. The post in question is an example of fabricated content.
