Did 159 soldiers die in the attack in Idlib according to the website of the Ministry of Defence?

CLAIM: 159 soldiers who are in the "Our Martyrs" section on the website of the Ministry of Defence were killed in the last attack in Idlib.

FALSE

It was claimed that the number of the martyrs declared by the government after the last air attack in Idlib on 27 February 2020 is not the same as the number on the website of the Ministry of Defence. However, 36 soldiers were killed in the attack, not 159. Some posts on social media gave reference to the website of the Ministry, which may cause uncertainty in the number of martyrs.

On the website of the Ministry of Defence, there is a section called “Our Martyrs”, in which there is a list of the deceased soldiers. The beginning date of the list is 26 February 2019, when Mehmet Ali Korkmaz passed away during the military service in Hakkari.

The last name of the list is Mustafa Muhammed Ak, who lost his life on 2 March 2020.

In other words, even though it is seen that 159 soldiers have lost their lives according to the official website of the Ministry of Defence, this list shows all the soldiers who have died since February 26, 2019. All 159 soldiers did not die in the February 27 attack.

On the list, the number of soldiers whose death was announced on February 27, 2020 is 34. The names that died on this date begin with Muhammed Ali Özer and end with Şükrü Elibol. Two soldiers who were injured in the same attack lost their lives in the following days.

When you click the blue box on that list, you can see the date of death.

In conclusion, the list of names in the “Our Martyrs” section on the website of the Ministry of National Defence shows not all soldiers who have lost their lives in the air attack on the Turkish Armed Forces in Idlib, but all of the soldiers who have died since February 26, 2019. The post in question is an example of a false context.
