National Aeronautics and Space Administration did not make a statement about the astrological signs even thoung they stated that the orbit of Earth has changed. As for the change in signs, there is no consensus on subject in the astrology community.
The claims about the so-called statement of NASA about the change in astrological signs had a broad repercussion in both natinal and internatioal press. An article, with the title “The Signs Changed” on Sabah’s website has argued that “NASA stated that the dates of the astrological signs has changed because the Axial precession of Earth has changed. For example; the people born between July 23th and August 22th are not Leo but Cancer.”.
The claim was based on an article published on the NASA’s children blog “SpacePlace”. The article in question has been online for a long time but, on January 13th, 2016 the article was updated and the controversy around the change in signs were reignited.
The article in question explains the relations between axial precession of Earth and astrology step by step. The article starting with the title “Astrology is not astronomy” explains that NASA is working on the science of astronomy, astrology is not a science and the stars light-years away from humanity cannot affect the daily life of people.
The relationship between constellations and the astorological signs explained in the article as:
“Constellations formed by a group of stars. When they united with imaginary lines, they can be likened to animals or humans with the help of imagination. However, these patters formed by stars does not mean they are connected to each other. Because the distance between these stars are unimaginably long. The shapes and positions of constellations change very slowly. It is very rare encounter this phenomenon in a lifetime.
The Zodiak and Babylonian Calendar
The Babylonians lived over 3,000 years ago. They divided the zodiac into 12 equal parts–like cutting a pizza into 12 equal slices. They picked 12 constellations in the zodiac, one for each of the 12 “slices.” So, as Earth orbits the Sun, the Sun would appear to pass through each of the 12 parts of the zodiac. Since the Babylonians already had a 12-month calendar (based on the phases of the Moon), each month got a slice of the zodiac all to itself.
When the Babylonians first invented the 12 signs of zodiac, a birthday between about July 23 and August 22 meant being born under the constellation Leo. Now, 3,000 years later, the sky has shifted because Earth’s axis (North Pole) doesn’t point in quite the same direction. So yes, the dates of astrological signs has changed.
However, NASA responds to the claims that they have changed the astrological dates with stating that “We did not changed the signs, we just calculated”.
While many news site published the new dates of the signs, there is no consensus on the effects of this change on earth or its validity.
